Job Summary and Scope of Responsibilities
 
Prominent business leaders from across the Gulf region formed the Pearl Initiative in 2010 to create a non-profit vehicle for the private sector to collectively take the lead in adopting higher standards in corporate governance, accountability, and transparency to enhance business innovation, opportunity, and value creation. The organisation still seeks joint collaborative action between regional and global business leaders, international institutions, government bodies, and wider initiatives in the Gulf region while sharing knowledge and experience in order to influence the entire regional business and student communities. Examples of programmes, incl. Anti-corruption, diversity in leadership, governance in SMEs and family firms, amongst others.

 

If being part of the Pearl Initiative interests you and you are good at designing, fund raising and executing programme, you should apply for Head of Programmes Role. This newly created role coincides with the exciting revision of PI’s 2025 Strategy – and will contribute to the next decade of PI’s important work in the Gulf region. You will have overall responsibility for leading programme design and work closely with the Executive Director, supporting on business development and fundraising as well.

 

You should have a keen interest in PI’s core business, of contributing to corporate governance, accountability & transparency, building evidence that supports the SDGs, incl. SDG16 –Strong Institutions! You should also be good at and enjoy building relationships with key donors/partners and have experience of delivering programmes from ideation to final execution.

 

The role will include regional Gulf travel from time-to-time, and you will need to balance your time between supporting the ED and leading the rest of the team to design and deliver programmes. Before applying – it is  important you are comfortable with and prepared to, lead in a flat organisation, as part of a highly functional small team. This role is one of the key strategic pillars of the organisation, and the candidate should be equipped with the confidence to interact a strategic level, with PI’s stakeholders.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Programme Design and Management (core responsibility):


Designing, developing, planning, budgeting, proposal preparation, negotiation, and execution of collaborative action programmes, in conjunction with the rest of the PI team;
Soliciting input from PI member corporate companies, to deterimine strategic valuable programme parameters as part of the design;
Building a network of collaborative action programmes e.g. taskforce participants from the private sector, civil society, academia, international institutions and semi-government bodies as apt;
Portfolio monitoring, evaluation and reporting of key milestones/performance criteria including measuring baselines, progress updates, programme performance, impact assessment and KPIs;
Analysing insights for quantitative and qualitative data from interviews, workshops and research output etc.;
Working closely with the Comms function on the roundtables, various fora and training events for respective programme portfolio from design to execution;
Building collaborative relationships with peers across the Gulf region with a view to building potential partnerships; and
Recruiting, organising and inspiring volunteers as needed from time to time to support above key activities.


 

Business Development and Fundraising (secondary component of role);


Researching and identifying fundraising opportunities that align with PI’s primary impact theme of corporate governance and related sub-impact areas;
Working with the ED to prepare pitch materials and/or writing grant applications to various donors;
Building key relationships  and partnerships with major philanthropic/other donors/ corporate organisations etc. for programmatic funding of PI’s key impact themes;
Preparing and delivering fundraising presentations, alongside the ED as required;
Managing and collating data, of donor profiles and fundraising activity; and
Assisting the ED with raising awareness and building the profile of PI’s work.


 

As with all roles at PI, applicants to the is role are encouraged to contribute and build on Knowledge Creation, such activities may include;


Writing articles, creating thought-leadership pieces and progress summaries for PI publication; and
Collating and disseminating key analysis and findings from the region in the areas of; transparency, accountability and the influence on business practices.



Minimum Educational, Technical Qualifications/Certifications Required


A University / Master's Degree preferred


Competencies/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Highly developed communication skills in English (spoken and written;
Candidates with a spoken or written competency of Arabic will be highly considered
Highly organised, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively  - an ability to switch between the two key components of the role
Self-motivated
Solution-oriented
Good public speaker
Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure; and
Committed to self-learning and training/teaching fellow team members.

Functional Competencies


Excellent regional knowledge & understanding of relevant regional protocols
Evidence of experience working in the Gulf Region
Highly competent in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Project management skills; and ability to manage large volumes of data.
