The Registered Nurse works with patients who have a temporary, progressive, or permanent injury, disability or illness that limits their ability to function in their daily life. They assist them in adapting to an altered lifestyle, while providing a therapeutic environment for patients and their family's development.

Possesses the specialized knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide excellent care for all patients recovering from debilitating conditions and injuries within the scope of service of SRH.
Is aware of the complication associated with the injury sustained by the patient.
Promotes and restores patients' health and wellbeing by completing the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and the interdisciplinary team members.
Designs and implements treatment strategies that are based on scientific nursing theory related to self-care and that promote physical, psychosocial, and spiritual health.
Performs individualized and age-specific nursing assessment of assigned patients using advanced assessment skills and other medical data to formulate nursing care plans.
Performs hands-on nursing care by utilizing the nursing process to achieve quality outcomes for all patients
Demonstrates professional judgment, uses problem solving techniques and time-management principles, and delegates appropriately
Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills to develop a rapport with patients, their families, the interprofessional team members to ensure the fulfilment of requirements for legal documentation and reimbursement
Coordinates a holistic approach to meeting patient's medical, vocational, educational, and environmental needs
Acts as a resource and a role model for junior nursing staff and ancillary staff and participates in activities such as nursing committees and professional organizations that promote the improvement of nursing care and the advancement of professional rehabilitation nursing
Actively engages in legislative Initiatives affecting the practice of rehabilitation nursing or the people in their care
Applies nursing research to clinical practice and participates in nursing research studies
Responsible for monitoring direct and indirect patient care to achieve optimum patient outcome.
Provides patient care within the regulatory body Scope of practice, organization policies and procedures, and the SRH Scope of Service.
Assumes accountability and responsibility for own practice and does not carry out tasks beyond level of competence.
Provides guidance to nursing staff in the planning, implementation and evaluation of individualized patient care.
Coordinates the interprofessional team activities to provide patient and family centered care
Coordinates referrals and utilizes available resources for the provision of comprehensive care to patients and families
Promotes and utilizes evidence-based practice in the provision of care
Administers medications according to SRH policies and procedures.
Is responsible to ensure that on a shift basis at wing level, the monitoring, replacement, storage and administration of Narcotic and Controlled Drugs is in accordance with the Department of Health and SRH Policies and Procedures.
Assesses the physical, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual dimensions of patients and their families, as well as their educational and discharge needs in order to formulate nursing diagnoses and plan of care.
Plans nursing care while acknowledging that rehabilitation nursing is practiced within a dynamic, therapeutic, and supportive relationship that is constantly changing, as nurses and patients influence one another
Implements a plan of care by providing nursing care and education directly or through all staff, as needed, to maintain and restore function and prevent complications and further loss
Evaluates the nursing care that is being provided and modifies the plan, as needed, to achieve measurable goals and objectives
Has knowledge of the assessments carried out on patients by other disciplines for example physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language pathology.
Providing holistic, comprehensive, and compassionate end-of-life care for patients with life-limiting conditions within SRH.
Educating patients and helping them with adjustments that support their health
Supporting adaptive capabilities for patients and their families.
Unit Specific Responsibilities
Need to be certified in Advanced life support to be able to function effectively as will be facing emergencies. Life threatening situations.
Knowledge on the medications, contra-indications, effect and side effects, i.e inotropic support, Vasopressors and Sedation.
Administer infusions and monitor special equipment such as Ventilators.
Prioritize a busy workload which includes very ill patients.
Have knowledge and be proficient with the use of the EMR.
Has knowledge on cardiac and respiratory monitor readings such as ECG and O2 saturations and communicate observations to the physician in the correct manner.
Participates in Nursing and or other disciplines research that contributes to continual improvement in standards of care for patients at SRH.
Obtains accredited and non-accredited Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Units in compliance with DOH requirements

Desired Candidate Profile
Graduate from an accredited Nursing program of a minimum duration of three years study.
Minimum 3-6 years relevant experience post registration
2 year experience in the assigned area of practice.
Be a registered general Nurse
Mature, professional attitude and manner.
Certification and Li-censure:
Hold a current / valid Nursing License from Country of Origin
Valid Life Support Certificate.
