Job Description:
Knocking down technical barriers to the adoption of Cloudera s products is the main responsibility of a Sales Engineer at Cloudera. This includes being the technical part of the sales team focused on presenting Cloudera s technology to help solve customers critical business problems. Another critical part of the role is ensuring the success of existing customers along with expanding the usage of Cloudera s technology by discovering additional use cases within a customer s organization. In order to do this successfully an understanding of a few key technologies is important, namely, databases, Java, distributed systems, data analytics and Linux.
A Day in the Life
You will be the technical representative for Cloudera's products and services in the Enterprise Field Sales organization.
This is a hands-on technologist role, you are not just doing slideware, you re architecting enterprise data solutions for large organizations.
You will...
Engage with sales prospects where you prepare and present Cloudera s technology along with addressing any technical questions that come up during the sales cycle
Support the technical needs of existing customers including discovering additional use cases for Cloudera s technology
Work closely with the product management and engineering team to align customer requirements to future versions and products
Have a deep understanding of Cloudera s technology and a willingness to learn new technologies when needed
Work with customers, partners, and prospects to understand and propose solutions using Cloudera technologies
Manage technical sales process for numerous customers day to day
Map customer requirements to current and future offerings
Own the technical sales process from introductory meetings (net new sales) through post-sales (customer satisfaction, upselling, and subscription renewals)
Educate prospects on the business value of Cloudera s offerings
Drive progress towards successful sales, in concert with Account Executives
Focus on customer satisfaction and success
Continuously learn and update skills in quickly evolving technologies

Experience with performing customer facing activities as part of pre-sales team or professional services team
In-depth knowledge of Linux and SQL query optimization and data model design
Demonstrable ability to create and give technical presentations and demo
Excellent communicator who has experience presenting to a wide range of audiences
Experience seeing the entire lifecycle from conception to design to technology evaluation to pilot program to implementation to maintenance and support
Ability to switch context quickly throughout the day with numerous competing demands
Minimum 3 years experience and success working in a customer-facing role
Hands-on, technical, problem solver personalit
Development experience with Java / OO programming
Unix/Linux expertise a must
