Due to an increase in mandates and future pipeline of work across the region we are looking to hire a talented bilingual (Arabic & English) paralegal with deep experience of multi-jurisdictional transactions to support our projects, energy and construction team, based in our Dubai office.
DLA Piper Middle East LLP, winner of the Legal Week Middle East International Law Firm of the Year in 2017 and 2018, offers on-the-ground coverage of projects expertise across the GCC. Our leading team of lawyers operate at a high level across the region, working on landmark projects in key GCC countries including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman and Kuwait. In addition, our team service the Levant and Africa (particularly Jordan and Egypt) frequently working with our international teams in the UK, Europe and the US. We are leaders in the electricity and water sectors, as well as offering specialist expertise in the transport sector (particularly major rail-related projects), PPP (across a variety of sectors including healthcare) and construction & engineering. We act for government entities, developers and lenders. Many of the projects we are involved in are highly publicised and often the first, or one of the first, of their kind in the region. For example:
•Saudi Arabia's National Renewable Energy Programme - the largest renewables programme in the world, including Saudi Arabia's first commercial wind power plant
•Rabigh 3 and Shuqaiq 3 IWPs. - the first independent water project procurements in Saudi Arabia under the Vision 2030 programme
•Al Ghubrah II IWP - Oman's largest water project
•Ibri II Solar IPP - Oman's first utility-scale solar project
Jordan Battery Storage - the first solar plus battery storage project in the MENA region
•Transport Infrastructure projects including Dubai Metro, Riyadh Metro, Jeddah Metro, Makkah Metro programme (including the special religious travellers line)
•Al Maryah Central - advising a leading regional developer, on the construction of the AED 1 bn Al Maryah Central mixed use development in Abu Dhabi
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
We are known for our ability to handle complex, multijurisdictional and often ground-breaking projects across a wide range of sectors including power (including renewables), water, healthcare, education and transport.
A significant amount of the work will be cross-border in nature, working with our global network of offices, so this will suit candidates with an international mind-set and aspirations to work across jurisdictions. This aspect of the role also means that the successful candidate will be required to travel, mostly to other GCC countries, but possibly further afield. Experience in the GCC region would be highly advantageous.
Candidates should have a flexible approach and be interested in gaining experience across the spectrum of work undertaken by the team.
Industry/sector experience would also be a strong advantage but not essential - the ideal candidate will have in-depth experience of reviewing bid documents and supporting complex cross-border corporate transactions.

The successful candidates will have the following skills and attributes:
•Law graduate with either LLB Law degree, JD (or equivalent) and/or LLM (essential)
•LPC (or equivalent) preferred
•Previous Paralegal or equivalent experience gained in a leading international transactional team, ideally in the Middle East
•Mature and pragmatic with the ability to communicate at all levels
•An interest in the projects / power sectors would be advantageous
•An excellent academic record in the relevant field•
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Arabic, with the ability to present information in a succinct way in both languages and an acute attention to detail
•Be able to create and deliver sustainable, high quality client service whilst also considering the client's wider business objectives
•Use of initiative and being well organised, with the ability to juggle numerous tasks at once
•Capable of working on own initiative as well as within local and virtual teams, and often to demanding deadlines
•Results orientated, with a pragmatic and flexible approach to work
•Takes ownership for achieving agreed objects
•Commercially astute and stays current on key legal and business news
•Exhibits behaviour consistent with the firm's values and builds relationships based on respect, trust and integrity
Competitive salary and benefits available. The successful candidate will be expected to work additional hours as required for the role. Overtime is not provided to Paralegals however fee earning paralegals are eligible to participate in the Middle East Fee Earner Bonus Scheme (the firm reserves the right to review the provisions of the scheme from time to time).
