Bahrain has solidified its status as a frontrunner in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector, according to the latest rankings. For the second consecutive year, the kingdom secured an impressive fifth position globally and third place in the Arab world in the 2024 ICT Development Index (IDI) published by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

This achievement underscores Bahrain's unwavering commitment to its goals outlined in the Telecommunications, Information Technology and Digital Economy Sector Strategic Goals (2022-2026). The strategy aims to solidify the nation's position as a leader in this crucial sector.

Bahrain's exceptional score of 97.5 points significantly surpasses the global average of 74.8 points, signifying the country's dedication to exceeding international benchmarks. The IDI, a prominent aspect of the ITU's Measuring the Information Society Report, is recognized as a vital global indicator for assessing a country's progress in the ICT domain. The index considers three main areas: access to ICTs, ICT use, and ICT skills.

This remarkable accomplishment reflects Bahrain's persistent efforts towards fostering innovation and digital transformation across various economic sectors. These advancements contribute to sustainable development and solidify Bahrain's regional and global leadership in telecommunications infrastructure and information technology.
