Purpose of the Job:
1. Assist in teaching lab courses assigned by the HoD
2. Coordinate research project lab work of the students.
3. Develop, design and deliver lab courses at various levels.
4. Participate with other staff in the development of teaching, learning and assessment strategies.
5. Undertake appropriate professional development and mandatory training as identified or required by the college.
6. Prepare and maintain laboratories; instruct students in correct laboratory techniques; and establish health and safety guidelines in laboratories.
7. Conduct laboratory assessment in consultation with the course instructor and proctor examinations as per timetable form the controller of examination.
8. Maintain laboratory supplies and support the teaching staff
9. To be responsible and involved in the QA activities of the College.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Laboratory preparation and maintenance:
1. Prepare student workstations, laboratory materials and reagents prior to laboratory sessions.
2. Prepare SOPs for each instrument available in lab and maintain laboratory equipment in proper working order.
3. Keep an up-to-date inventory of chemicals and equipment; and prepare purchase orders for procurement of laboratory supplies.
Conducting laboratory sessions:
4. Prepare learning materials and quizzes for laboratory exercises.
5. Brief students on the experiment to be performed in the laboratory.
6. Keep accurate records of students’ attendance and academic attainments.
Academic support and student assessment
7. Assist teaching faculty with proctoring of exams and quizzes.
8. Grade lab assignments, lab reports, short tests and examinations.
Health and Safety
9. Raise awareness of safety in the laboratory through clear sign-posting, including the safe handling of hazardous materials.
10. Ensure that chemicals and equipment are stored in their designated areas when not in use.
11. Supervise the proper disposal of laboratory waste materials.
12. Direct the cleaning of laboratory spaces, either during or outside sessions, to maintain the highest level of cleanliness and safety.
13. Ensure that all the instruments/equipment/apparatus are handled/operated strictly as per the prescribed SOP guidelines
Other duties and responsibilities
14. Maintain the highest professional standards of the College.
15. Perform additional job-related duties as assigned by the course instructor/ Head of the Department or the Dean.
Requirement /Skills:
- Fully conversant in back-office software and MS Office (especially Excel, Word and Outlook).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Fluent in English (Reading, writing and speaking).
- Omani candidates only.
