Job Purpose

The Automation Design Engineer is responsible for PLC, HMI, and SCADA program development, system architecture design, and engineering support during tender, design, and execution stages. The role also supports the estimation and costing team with technical inputs.

This role focuses on development, logic, and design — not routine site commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

Program & System Development

  • Develop PLC programs, HMI screens, and SCADA systems as per project specifications.

  • Design automation architecture including PLC selection, redundancy concepts, and network topology.

  • Implement control philosophies, interlocks, alarms, trends, and reports.

Tender & Costing Support

Support estimation team with:

  • PLC & HMI product selection.

  • I/O list preparation.

  • Control philosophy review.

  • Technical clarifications during tender stage.

  • Assist in preparing technical submissions and automation-related documentation.

Engineering Documentation

Prepare:

  • Control narratives.

  • I/O lists.

  • Network architecture diagrams.

  • Alarm lists

  • HMI screen layouts.

  • Support FAT activities from design and logic perspective.

Area of Technical Expertise (Mandatory):

Siemens TIA Portal:

  • S7-300 / S7-400.

  • S7-400H (Redundant Systems).

  • S7-1200 / S7-1500.

  • S7-1500H (Redundant Systems).

  • WinCC Comfort / Advanced / Professional.

  • PCS 7 (Engineering-level exposure).

  • Structured PLC programming standards and modular design.

Application Areas:

  • Water & Waste Water Treatment Automation.

  • RO & Process Plants with field instrumentation.

  • Chilled Water Systems (Primary / Secondary).

  • Booster Pump Logic (Duty / Assist / Standby).

  • Ventilation, Exhaust & Pressurization Systems.

Other Brand Knowledge (Added Advantage):

  • Rockwell Automation (Studio 5000).

  • Honeywell PLC / DCS platforms.

  • Schneider Electric EcoStruxure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical / Electronics / Instrumentation / Automation Engineering.

  • Siemens Certified Engineer – Preferred.

Experience:

  • 3–6 years of relevant automation design & development experience.

Driving License:

  • Advantage (Not Mandatory)

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Quality and reliability of PLC/HMI programs.

  • Timely delivery of engineering milestones.

  • Accuracy of I/O lists and technical documentation.

  • Reduction in site modifications due to design gaps.

  • Support effectiveness to estimation and execution teams.
