Key Accountability Areas

Key Activities

  • Translate the Compliance & Governance strategy into operational plans and initiatives for the Compliance Section.
  • Develop section work plans, compliance monitoring schedules, and performance indicators aligned with the department s objectives.
  • Coordinate with directorates to ensure alignment of compliance activities and reporting timelines.
  • Support the preparation of the section s inputs for budgeting and strategic planning processes.

Compliance Management

  • Lead the execution of compliance programs, ensuring that all compliance obligations (laws, regulations, contracts, and internal requirements) are identified, updated, and maintained in a centralized repository.
  • Gather information related to new laws and regulations applicable to SANS pertaining to different areas, departments, and processes.
  • Lead the development of centralized repository of compliance obligations (laws, regulations, contractual and internal requirements).
  • Conduct compliance risk assessments and ensure key risks are documented and monitored.
  • Ensure the mapping of regulatory obligations to internal policies and procedures, recommending necessary updates or enhancements.
  • Conduct compliance check and set corrective action plans with all concerned departments.
  • Review and validate compliance, check results and corrective action plans.
  • Monitor resolution of compliance findings, audit observations, non-compliance risks and ensure timely closure.
  • Prepare annual report on compliance, and recommendations on improvements.
  • Support the implementation of compliance actions arising from Board, Committee, and management resolutions.
  • Develop and conduct compliance training and awareness, ensuring effective communication of compliance obligations across SANS.

Monitoring, Reporting, and Advisory

  • Prepare periodic compliance performance reports, dashboards, and KPIs for management review.
  • Provide advisory support to departments on interpreting compliance obligations and ensuring adherence.
  • Track and report on key compliance metrics, including training completion, audit observations, and risk mitigation actions.
  • Escalate significant compliance breaches or risks to the Compliance & Governance Manager, along with recommended remediation measures.

Policies, Processes, and Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure compliance processes are documented, standardized, and regularly reviewed to reflect evolving regulations and organizational needs.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of compliance frameworks, manuals, and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in compliance monitoring and reporting processes.
  • Support automation and digitalization initiatives related to compliance activities and dashboards.

People Management

  • Supervise and coach the Compliance Analyst, providing guidance, task prioritization, and performance feedback.
  • Foster a culture of integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement within the section.
  • Participate in identifying skill gaps and recommending relevant training for section staff.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in Compliance, Governance, Internal Audit, or Regulatory Affairs.
  • Strong understanding of compliance frameworks, corporate governance principles, and regulatory environments.
  • Experience in aviation, utilities, or government-related industries is preferred.

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor s degree in business administration, Accounting, Finance, Law, or equivalent.
  • Professional certification in Compliance, Governance, Risk Management, or Internal Audit (e.g., ISO 37301, CCEP, GRC, CIA) is preferred.

The role supports the Compliance & Governance Manager in maintaining organizational adherence to laws, regulations, internal policies, and contractual requirements. The Compliance Section Head drives compliance awareness, conducts compliance checks, monitors key obligations, and ensures accurate reporting and communication across the organization contributing to SANS s overall governance, transparency, and regulatory resilience.
