How can you make a difference?
The primary objective of the consultancy is to update the MENA Country Factsheets to incorporate the latest available indicator values from regional and global databases including the SDGs. The consultancy will also support the preparation of regional key facts on each goal area in the new Strategic Plan and contribute to the development of plans for consolidating regional data assets between MENARO and ECARO.
Data hold more potential than ever to shape children s lives and living conditions. They are an essential public good to inform and assess the effectiveness of policy, programming and advocacy to advance the realization of children s rights. UNICEF invests strategically to make timely and quality data on the situation of children available to policymakers, child rights advocates, development practitioners, researchers and civil society.
The UNICEF Middle East and North Africa s established the MENA Data Portal in 2022 which provides a compilation of high-quality, internationally comparable statistics reflecting the situation of children in the 20 countries of the Middle East and North Africa, including regional averages. The Data Portal comprises a Data Warehouse and set of Country Factsheets.
The Data Warehouse contains time-series data for over 150 indicators, covering various child rights and well-being domains and disaggregated by sex, urban/rural residence and wealth quintiles where possible. The SDMX Data Warehouse is automatically updated with the latest available estimates from UNICEF and other UN agencies.
The MENA Data Portal features Country Factsheets framed around child rights to give an overview of the most recent child-related statistics for each country. The country factsheets were last updated in late 2024 and include indicators drawn from a range of sources and narrative highlights, not all of which can currently be automated.
In 2027, UNICEF s MENA and Europe and Central Asia (ECA) regional offices will be consolidated into a new broader region covering 39 programme countries. The consultancy will also contribute to conceptualization of a plan for integrating the existing MENARO and ECARO data assets.
