Educational/Professional Qualifications/Training Certifications

(Applicable to both levels unless stated otherwise)

• Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

• HSE accredited training qualifications.

• ASME/pressure vessel certification (preferred).

• Crane certification or ability to obtain one.

1.4 Job Experience, Software Competencies & Technical Knowledge

• (Senior) Minimum to 5 years of experience in the EfW or power plant operation and maintenance.

• (Junior) Minimum to 3 years of experience in the operation of EfW or power operation plant plant operation and maintenance.

• Thorough Knowledge of:

• Steam boilers and combustion theory

• Boiler water quality control

• Turbine-generators

• Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS)

• Auxiliary plant systems

• Clear understanding of:

• Equipment interlocks, alarms, and trip logic

• Plant control loops and system responses

• Completion of an operator training program or equivalent operational experience.

• Ability to react quickly and exercise sound judgment during emergencies.

1.5.1 Safety & HSE Compliance

• Senior: Proactively enforces safety standards, promotes a strong safety culture, and coaches others on safe work behaviors.

• Junior: Complies with all safety rules, procedures, and safe work practices.

1.5.2 Operational Excellence & Plant Availability

• Senior: Independently manages complex operating scenarios and abnormal operating conditions to maintain plant stability and availability.

• Junior: Executes operating procedures accurately under guidance and within defined operating boundaries.

1.5.3 Technical Competency & System Knowledge

• Senior: Demonstrates in-depth understanding of EfW/power plant systems and operations. Diagnoses root causes of operational deviations and guides corrective actions.

• Junior: Demonstrates practical working knowledge of plant operations and correctly applies operating logic, interlocks, and alarms.

1.5.4 Alarm Handling & Operational Decision-Making

• Senior: Manages high alarm load situations, stabilizes plant operation, and leads response during abnormal or emergency conditions.

• Junior: Responds to alarms in accordance with predefined instructions, procedures, and escalation protocols.

1.5.5 Documentation, Reporting & Data Accuracy

• Senior: Reviews operational logs and reports for accuracy and completeness, ensuring continuity between shifts.

• Junior: Completes operational documentation and logs accurately with minimal supervision.

1.5.6 Maintenance Coordination & Asset Care

• Senior: Coordinates and prioritizes operational support for maintenance activities to ensure safe and efficient execution.

• Junior: Supports maintenance activities as instructed, including isolation, access, and post-maintenance checks.

1.5.7 Teamwork, Communication & Shift Handover

• Senior: Leads effective shift handovers, ensures shared situational awareness, and communicates clearly across functions.

• Junior: Communicates operational status clearly and accurately during shift handovers.

1.5.8 Learning, Development & Continuous Improvement

• Senior: Coaches junior staff and contributes to procedural, operational, or safety improvements.

• Junior: Actively develops technical and operational competence through training and on-the-job learning.

1.5.9 Leadership & Operational Responsibility (Senior CRO only)

• Demonstrates leadership in the control room, assumes responsibility for plant operation during the shift, and acts as the primary operational authority under the Shift Supervisor.

1.5.10Problem-Solving

• Senior: Resolves complex operational challenges by identifying root causes and evaluating solutions, risks, and impacts in line with operational directives.

• Junior: Identifies issues promptly, escalates appropriately, and follows guidance to resolve problems.

1.5.11Teamwork

• Senior: Leads by example, supports team cohesion, and promotes effective collaboration.

• Junior: Works cooperatively with colleagues and contributes positively to the team environment.

1.5.12 Adaptability

• Senior: Demonstrates reliability and composure under pressure, adapts to technical, operational, or organizational changes, and manages conflict constructively.

• Junior: Demonstrates willingness and ability to adapt to changing tasks, instructions, and operational conditions.

15.13 Accountability

• Senior: Demonstrates ownership of operational outcomes and decisions taken during the shift.

• Junior: Follows instructions, policies, and procedures and takes responsibility for assigned tasks.
