GIS Specialist

JOB PURPOSE:

• The GIS Specialist reports to the GIS / Land Surveying Manager. He is responsible for maintaining and using GIS databases and softwares. Part of his/her job is responsibility for managing, analyzing, and maintaining spatial data and GIS systems to support strategic decision-making, infrastructure planning, and operational activities. The role involves developing GIS databases, conducting spatial analysis, integrating GIS with other enterprise systems, and providing technical guidance and support to junior GIS staff. As a member of the SFZ organization the GIS Specialist is expected to contribute positively to the development of the companys systems and processes, also he is expected to contribute to the creation and maintenance of a positive work atmosphere.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Customized mapping to support SFZ needs of maps.
• Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and external agencies for data exchange and project collaboration.
• Analyze requests for new applications and create feasibility reports for each request.
• Conduct quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) for spatial data and mapping outputs.
• Work as part of a team and take responsibility for decision making.
• Develop, update, and maintain geospatial databases, maps, and associated metadata.
• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and compliance with organizational and industry standards.
• Migrate GIS Data to SFZ` GIS Database.
• Export GIS data to different Formats for consultants/contractors, and utility providers that work within SFZ boundary, when required.
• Cooperate in data exchange process between SFZ and external entities.
• Participate in the UNS (User Needs Study) for the Geo-database.
• Ensure QA/QC data from consultants/contractors.
• Pro-actively liaises and coordinates with various internal departments and external parties involved in execution of work to eliminate conflicts.
• Lead or support GIS-related projects, including system upgrades, data collection initiatives, and geospatial surveys.

• Follow all relevant divisional policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.

• Comply with all relevant quality, health, security, safety, and environmental guidelines, policies and procedures, report incidents and hazards in a timely manner, and reduce consumption of natural resources to assist in protecting the environment and ensuring a healthy and safe work environment.

• Perform additional duties in line with the current role, as and when requested by the Geographic Information System (GIS).
