Job Description

Performs clinical tests in the area of Histopathology.

Responsibilities

3.1 Prepares tissue samples for routine microscopic analysis.

3.2 Gross descriptions of small, uncomplicated specimens are recorded where appropriate, using specific terminology according to procedure.

3.3 Tissue samples are prepared using correct procedures for preservation including, processing, freezing and embedding as appropriate per procedure.

3.4 Tissue samples are sectioned using good microtomy techniques on microtomes to produce acceptable quality slides for staining according to procedures.

3.5 Workload is prioritized and managed to meet expected Turn-Around-Times (TATS).

3.6 Competence is maintained and new skills added as technology changes.

s are accurately performed and Quality Control (QC) results recorded. Stain quality is evaluated for acceptability prior to release of histological sections to the ordering pathologist.

3.10 Stain quality results are communicated to the supervisor and/or ordering pathologist.

3.11 New stains are developed and instituted as needed by working in conjunction with the supervisor, pathology staff and other technicians.

3.12 Maintains and operates laboratory equipment according to manufacturer recommendations and procedures.

3.13 Instrumentation necessary for Histology functions is operated within the manufactures’' guidelines and according to procedures.

3.14 Instrument malfunctions are recognized and troubleshooting is performed to ensure accurate operation. Instrument maintenance is performed and documented on a scheduled basis.

1. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

4.1 Work in all shifts as scheduled by the Head of Department.

4.2 Strictly adheres to organization's regulations and policies especially those related to infection control, patient safety, EHSMS, HAAD, JCI and ISO.

4.3 Supports Continuous Quality Improvement and participates and contributes to all the quality assurance activities of the service.

4.4 Participates and contributes in scheduled in-service training programs.

4.5 Exercises effective interpersonal skills in dealings with department staff, associates and Management.

4.6 Maintains confidentiality as per the agreement signed.

4.7 Demonstrates the ability to listen to others in promoting effective communication.

4.8 Develops thorough understanding of policies and procedures of the hospital and demonstrates respect for them.

4.9 Carries out other duties when requested by the Head of department.

4.10 Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital management to comply those requirements

4.11 Work accordance with the documented OSH procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities

4.12 Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures

4.13 Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with the preparation of risk assessments, incident reports

4.14 Comply with Waste management procedures and policies

4.15 Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills and awareness programs

4.16 Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems
