Job Purpose:

Downe House Riyadh is seeking an inspirational Primary School Teacher & Key Stage 1 Lead to join our team from August 2026. This is an exciting leadership opportunity for an experienced educator who is passionate about teaching, learning, and driving excellence across Key Stage 1. The successful candidate will lead KS1 staff, ensure consistency and high standards across the phase, and deliver outstanding teaching within their own classroom.

  • Demonstrate strong subject knowledge across the primary curriculum.

  • Set challenging goals supported by varied strategies, resources, and technologies.

  • Assess, record, and report on pupil progress in line with school procedures.

  • Provide high-quality written and verbal feedback to support learning and reflection.

  • Participate fully in the school s extra-curricular and activities programme.

Key Stage 1 Lead Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all KS1 classes.

  • Support, guide, and motivate KS1 teachers and support staff.

  • Lead regular phase meetings and ensure consistent communication.

  • Ensure school policies, curriculum standards, and behaviour expectations are implemented consistently across KS1.

Teaching & Learning

  • Monitor and support high-quality teaching across the phase.

  • Lead on curriculum planning and delivery in Year 1 and Year 2.

  • Ensure lessons meet the needs of all learners, including EAL and SEND pupils.

  • Model exemplary teaching when required.

Curriculum & Assessment

  • Oversee curriculum progression and continuity across the phase.

  • Analyse assessment data to track progress, identify gaps, and lead interventions.

  • Support phonics, reading, writing, and maths development across KS1.

  • Lead Phonics Screening preparation and other KS1 assessments.

Staff Development

  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and CPD opportunities for KS1 staff.

  • Conduct lesson observations, learning walks, and book scrutinies.

  • Provide constructive feedback to support professional growth.

Pupil Support & Wellbeing

  • Ensure a safe, nurturing, and positive environment for KS1 pupils.

  • Support teachers with behaviour management and wellbeing concerns.

  • Work closely with parents regarding pupil progress and pastoral matters.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Liaise regularly with SLT, SENCO, subject leads, and other phase leaders.

  • Communicate with parents through meetings, reports, and events.

  • Support whole-school initiatives and improvement priorities.

Administrative & Operational Duties

  • Ensure accurate assessment, intervention, and safeguarding record-keeping.

  • Contribute to school improvement and self-evaluation processes.

  • Oversee KS1 resources, learning environments, and classroom organisation.

Professional Standards

  • Attend assemblies, meetings, parents evenings, and school functions.

  • Participate in professional development and training sessions.

  • Act as a positive role model to all pupils.

  • Maintain high standards of professionalism, timekeeping, and presentation.

  • Reflect on and develop teaching practice.

  • Build and maintain constructive relationships with colleagues.

Safeguarding Responsibilities

  • Comply with all safeguarding policies and procedures.

  • Report any safeguarding concerns in line with policy.

  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to pupil safety and wellbeing.

  • Engage fully in all required safeguarding training.

Person Specification

Experience & Qualifications

  • Essential:
    Bachelor s Degree.
    PGCE or equivalent if B.Ed is not held.
    Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
    At least 3 years of successful primary teaching experience.
    Minimum 2 years of proven leadership experience within the phase.
    Excellent working knowledge of the UK National Curriculum.
    Strong academic background and professional credibility.
    Commitment to academic excellence, welfare, and safeguarding.
    Understanding of current educational developments and best practice.
