Clinical Supervision and Training:

  • Conduct on-going supervision, formal training, staff support, promote self-care, mentoring and modeling to mental health providers of varying experience levels (junior, senior, associate).
  • Design and carry out training programs for staff and clinical partners.
  • Continually assess learning needs of the mental health team, develop and modify individual professional development plans, and adapt training and coaching accordingly.
  • Adapt training style, content, and frequency to meet both individual and team needs.
  • Work as interdisciplinary team to assess, provide and follow-up on topics related to case management, interdisciplinary work and related topics.
  • Participate in hiring and orientation for new staff.

Clinical Management:

  • Manage performance of supervisees and provide regular feedback both through formal and informal assessment.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the mental health team.
  • Track and ensure program clinical objectives are met.
  • Promote collaboration between disciplines.

Service Planning and Provision:

  • Contribute to the establishment of specialized and non-specialized services in new communities.
  • Lead and plan direct service delivery, and oversee clinical workplan management.
  • Provide resilience and rehabilitation services to individuals, families and groups impacted by torture and war, in order to model methods and build capacity of mental health staff and partners
  • Collaborate with other interdisciplinary providers as part of an integrated care model.
  • Integrate appropriate community and cultural feedback into care models as appropriate, in collaboration with local providers, survivors, and other experts.

Reporting:

  • Write and submit regular reports regarding clinical and training activities, including training and workshop sessions, that focus on progress achieved toward program objectives.

Community Assessment:

  • Collaborating with CVT s interdisicplinary team and project partners, carry out need assessments in local communities to determine appropriate mental health interventions for people who have been tortured and/or traumatized by war.

Program Development and Evaluation:

  • Participate in the design of and implementation of new programs as well as program evaluation.

Community Collaboration and Capacity-Building:

  • Provide training, mentoring and supportive supervision to partner organization staff to provide trauma informed services to their beneficiaries.
  • Coordinate with partner and other organizations to better address the needs of torture and war survivors.

Other Duties:

  • Participate in other program and organization-wide activities, meetings and trainings.
  • Complete administrative responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required:

  • Master s degree or equivalent in Clinical Psychology or Counseling.
  • At least 5 years experience providing psychotherapy to children, adults, families and groups.
  • Experience or competencies in managing and supervising staff, including supervision and professional development leadership to staff of varying experience.
  • Experience working in Iraq

Preferred:

  • Certification or licensure as a Psychologist or therapist.
  • Work experience with survivors of torture
  • Experience supervising mental health counselors.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Required: Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Required: Excellent Oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic.
  • Required: Cultural sensitivity awareness in working with diverse staff and client populations, including a demonstrated track record of developing inclusive approaches to working with ethnic and religious diversity in contexts of geopolitical complexity
  • Required: Understanding of and experience in adapting and implementing culturally appropriate mental health interventions, including individual, group and community-based approaches for people who have suffered torture and war trauma.
  • Required: Understanding of and experience developing curriculum and providing training for mental health professionals using interactive methodologies. Experience providing training and sensitization on the effects of trauma and war.
  • Required: Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to work in challenging areas, changing conditions, procedures and/or policies, client needs, program needs, and required tasks.
  • Required: Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Required: Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels.
  • Required: Strong leadership, analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills including effective time management and work load organization.
  • Required: Commitment to the ethical and sensitive implementation of project activities, including a commitment to confidentiality, diversity, equity, and inclusion, quality service provision, and the prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (including online).
  • Required: Ability to consistently promote and represent a humanitarian and human rights understanding of their work internally and externally, including promoting acceptance of differences and non-discrimination.
  • Required: Commitment to and role modeling of human rights approach including: maintaining respect regarding any sensitive issues such as religion, minority or political affiliation and treating colleagues equally regardless of differences. Strong commitment to serve beneficiaries of CVT s project regardless their religion, gender, disability, minority affiliation or political background.
  • Required: Demonstrated commitment to the organization s interdisciplinary approach in trauma rehabilitation service delivery.
  • Preferred: Skilled at carrying out needs assessment and program evaluations.
  • Preferred: Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Center for Victims of Torture

The Psychotherapist/Trainer works as part of an interdisciplinary team to address the trauma rehabilitation needs of survivors of torture, human rights violations, and/or conflict-related violence. The Psychotherapist/Trainer will oversee psychological interventions. This position also will provide supervision, coaching, and training to staff psychologists and mental health counselors, and provide education and support to help other organizations better meet the needs of survivors. Part-time (60%; negotiable schedule).
