We are seeking a dynamic Science Secondary Mentor to inspire a love for science, connect classroom learning to real-world applications, and lead the way in reimagining science education for our secondary learners in every lesson. With excellent facilities that include two rooftop greenhouses, and a new Secondary School currently being built, this role offers a unique platform to teach all 3 Sciences through hands-on, inquiry-driven experiences. Working under the Science Subject Leader, you will have the chance to shape our secondary and eventually sixth-form science curriculum, making science a pivotal part of our entrepreneurial and inquiry-based approach to learning.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum Innovation:

As a Secondary Science Mentor, you will work alongside the Science Lead to integrate Citizens School s entrepreneurial curriculum within science lessons, inspiring learners to make connections across scientific disciplines and explore concepts through hands-on experimentation, investigation, and creativity. Cultivate curiosity and real-world relevance, ensuring a high-quality science curriculum that engages learners of all abilities. Differentiate lesson planning to meet diverse learning needs, working closely with the Inclusion team to provide targeted support for learners with special educational needs. Maintain continuity and progression within science schemes, develop assessments that monitor learner progress, and support learners through a cycle of marking, feedback and interventions to ensure continuous improvement.

2. Inquiry-Based Learning:

Embed an inquiry-based approach that transforms learners into critical thinkers and problem solvers. Utilize our rooftop greenhouses and other hands-on resources to link scientific inquiry with real-life applications, reinforcing an understanding of how science interacts with the world around us.

3. Project-Based Learning (PBL):

Facilitate transdisciplinary projects that blend the British Curriculum with the International Baccalaureate inquiry-based approach to learning. Guide learners as they tackle real-world challenges and develop key skills like collaboration, adaptability, and resilience within a scientifically rigorous framework.

4. Individualized Support:

Embrace our ethos of Everyone known and known well by building meaningful relationships with learners. Recognize each learner s strengths, needs, and aspirations to tailor personalized support that enables every individual to reach their potential.

5. Team Member:

As part of the Science Team, bring a positive mindset and a can do attitude to develop a collaborative and supportive environment within the team. Work closely with the Science Curriculum Leader, aligning on goals and ensuring a shared vision for success. Inspire and motivate team members. Communicate in a positive and supportive way.

Be part of and when required, lead efficient, purposeful meetings and keep everyone informed by distributing clear and concise minutes.

Qualifications and Skills

Science specialist with expertise in at least one of Physics, Chemistry, or Biology.

Proven experience in iGCSEs, delivering project-based and inquiry-driven science education, ideally within the British or International Baccalaureate curriculum.

Passion for linking classroom learning to real-world applications, creating a hands-on approach to science education.

Strong commitment to personalized learning experiences and cultivating an inclusive learning environment.

Strong academic qualifications in a related field; Bachelor s degree required.

Valid teaching credential with a minimum of two years of teaching experience.

Excellent organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently while safeguarding confidential information.

Sensitivity to the diverse needs of all students.

Proficient in IT for productivity and facilitating learning in the classroom.
