الأدوار والمسؤوليات


Purpose:
Assist students with personal, family, educational, mental health, or social development problems. Advocate for students and work with other individuals and organizations to promote the academic, career, personal, and social development of the student.


Key duties include:


1. Help students enhance personal, social, and academic growth.
2. Monitor the progress of individual students.
3. Make contact with parents to discuss student behaviour.
4. Take steps to prevent bullying and support victims of bullying.
5. Help students develop job search skills, such as resume writing and interviewing techniques.
6. Help students understand and deal with social, behaviour, and personal problems.
7. Emphasize preventive and developmental counselling to provide students with life skills needed to deal with problems before they worsen and to enhance students personal, social, and academic growth.
8. Provide special services such as conflict resolution classes; identify cases of domestic abuse and other family problems that can affect a student s development.


Specific duties:


GROUP COUNSELLING:
9. Identifies areas that would be appropriate for intervention in the form of group counselling and regularly forms and leads appropriate groups.
10. Utilizes both large (classroom) groups and small groups to make appropriate academic and behavioural interventions.

CAREER COUNSELING:
11. Coordinates with the Counsellors regarding career options for students and provides appropriate information to students regarding careers.
12. Assists the counsellors in providing students with information for career exploration and selection to assist them in making appropriate academic course selections relating to their interests.
13. Maintains an appropriate library/database relating to various careers for students to utilize in their career explorations.

PERSONAL COUNSELLING:
14. Works with individual students and groups of students regarding appropriate social development issues.
15. Maintains an awareness of cultural influences regarding social development of adolescents.
16. Monitors students who may be at risk regarding social issues and makes appropriate referrals for interventions outside of school in consultation with parents.


REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor s degree in education in social work. Valid DCD license from the UAE as a social worker is mandatory.
Minimum Experience: One year of experience in similar role in a school setting.


Job Specific Knowledge & Skills:

1. Appropriate license from Department of Community Development (DCD) to carry out social work services is mandatory.
2. Strong interpersonal skills with both students and parents.
3. Demonstrable organizational skills.
4. Strong desire to help others and should be able to inspire respect, trust, and confidence.
5. Must possess high emotional and physical energy to handle the array of problems addressed.

6. Arabic proficiency desired.
