Key Responsibilities

1. Sample Collection & Preparation

Collect, label, and handle biological samples (blood, urine, stool, sputum, tissue, etc.).

Prepare specimens for analysis using microscopes, chemical reagents, or automated machines.

Ensure proper storage and preservation of samples.

2. Laboratory Testing

Perform routine and specialized diagnostic tests in areas such as:

Hematology (blood tests, CBC)

Microbiology (culture & sensitivity tests)

Biochemistry (glucose, liver/kidney function tests)

Immunology & Serology (HIV, hepatitis, etc.)

Histopathology (tissue processing)

Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for accuracy.

3. Equipment Operation & Maintenance

Operate lab instruments like centrifuges, microscopes, spectrophotometers, and analyzers.

Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment.

Report and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions.

4. Quality Control & Safety

Ensure accuracy and reliability of test results through quality control measures.

Follow biosafety and infection-control protocols.

Properly dispose of biohazard waste according to regulations.

5. Data Recording & Reporting

Record test results accurately in laboratory information systems.

Prepare reports for physicians and healthcare providers.

Maintain confidentiality of patient information.

6. Collaboration & Support

Work with pathologists, doctors, and nurses in diagnosing diseases.

Assist senior laboratory staff in research and advanced testing.

Communicate effectively about abnormal or critical results.

7. Professional Development

Stay updated with new diagnostic techniques and technologies.

Attend training and workshops for skill enhancement.
